Francis, author of “The organisation of mathematics in colleges” (NCETM) has 20 years of experience teaching Mathematics and Numeracy in Further Education, most recently as Head of Mathematics at Barnet College. He has taught mathematics across the whole range of student groups, and levels including SMP 16 –19, and has also taught Functional, Key and Basic Skills to groups of students from Science, Engineering, Art and Design, Media and Caring courses. His work at Barnet included the development of Key Skills across the curriculum as well as developing and implementing a whole college Mathematics policy.
What he has to share with us about the organisation of Mathematics in Colleges of FE is of value not only to teachers of mathematics but also to curriculum managers who have a strategic overview of mathematics across the institution.
