The National Design Academy was established 22 years ago and since then, over 20,000 students have graduated from fully accredited interior design courses. National Design Academy programmes are designed to be studied at home and students with little or no design experience can progress from foundation level to a BA (Hons) in Interior Design.

The National Design Academy has a Virtual Learning Studio which enables students to keep in touch with tutors and other learners; and access resources, materials and information.

Recently, 100 National Design Academy learners achieved the Foundation Degree in Interior Design and attended a graduation ceremony at Staffordshire University.  The university’s Vice Chancellor described the National Design Academy as an ‘exceptional partner’ and paid tribute to the achievement of students balancing full time jobs, families and distance learning study.

Helen Keighley, NDA’s Business Director, will share her knowledge and experience on the origins of the National Design Academy; the development of the Foundation degree and Degree programme; and the diversity of the student group. Helen will also explain the Virtual Learning Studio and the way in which long distance students are supported.

The meeting will provide an opportunity for delegates to share good practice, discuss on-line and distance learning and consider good practice in relation to supporting adult and non-traditional students.  The Network meeting will also be an opportunity to gain an overview of Foundation Degree provision in the East Midlands in 2010-11.
